hi guys,
Now that the results are out, you would be wondering which colleges you should apply..the following are the options that I would recommend for BMM colleges
if you have scored anywhere between:
75-84%- Apply to Xaviers, Wilson, KC,Sophia, RUIA
73-78%- Apply to Nationals, Usha Pravin Gandhi, Jai Hind, Mithibai,Andrews,SIES (Nerul)
68-74%- Apply to Bhavans,MMK,Lala’s, Sk Somaiya,Rizvi College,Vivekanand College, Mks (ritumbara), NL colleg(Nagindas Khandwala),
Below65 %- Apply for CHM(Ulhasnagar), University Of Mumbai, Guru Nanak College,Burhani College,
Generally to get into BMM one needs to get 50% and above. But to get into best college 70% plus is must.
Do leave a comment if you want to know more….I shall be happy to help

1Thank you for this very useful information.
My daughter has scored 70.5% in the recent HSC examination from SNDT college. She had taken HSC MCVC (with “Bakery and nutrition”).
She is now very keen on doing BMM.
Could you please recomend most suitable colleges for her, we need hostel accomodation.
What is the last date of submission and process of applying?
Do these college publish 2nd / 3rd round of admission lists?
Thank you very much….

2Thank You Sir for your Query…
Sir, we have uploaded the cutoffs and the colleges where she can apply in our BMM Colleges and CUtoffs section. But still i will help you out again…
70.5 % is not a bad score actually to apply to good colleges….But the choice does gets narrowed down coz she has just managed to crossthe border..With the results of HSC not very good this time, i would recommend the following colleges for her:
1. Usha Pravin Gandhi College Parle (w)
2. National College (Bandra –West)…To be applied only if you are a sindhi
3. Andrews College (Bandra—-West)
4. MMk college (Bandra—west)
5. SNDT College Marine Lines
6. Bhavans College —-Andheri West
7. Rizvi College —–Bandra west
8. Vivekanand college
9. Ritumbara college—-Andheri West, JUHu
Tell her to apply to these cooleeges as all of them are renowned enough for BMM except MMK and Rizvi coz of their faculties…She will sail in these colleges though for admissions…..
So keep vvisiting the blog and get back to me incase of any more Queries…Also let me know her final decision regarding admissions into college….
Thank You,
Regards,

4Sir many of the above colleges dont normally have a hostel facility….
But yes In parle and sion and juhu you will come across many girl hostel ….

7Guru Nanak and Khalsa are OK colleges for BMM…..But by looking at the Percentage that you have scored, I would also suggest you to apply at BURHANI and LALA college of Management…..
Getting into LALA’s might be a touch difficult but dont worry, HSC results are not so good again…..So you might have a slight chance

8Can u tell me the percentage of reduction of cutoffs for sindhis in sindhi colleges……Eg. 5% meaning the normal cutoff is 100% and sindhi cutoff is 95%
Manish Dhanwani
June 11th, 2009 at 5:43 pm
9hi manoj,
you can always expect that the cutoff in sindhi colleges under sindhi quota is 4-5 %…..as the range last year was 3-4 %, but the HSC results have kind of gone towards the down side this year..So 4-5 % is a safe bet this time for sure…
Do leave more comments and get all your doubts cleared ..I am always happy to help

11hi!!
i think this is avery useful way of letting students know, wat thecourse is and wat all it demands….
well by giving in the college with their percentage breakup, it will help the students, to select excatly the college in their percent strata…this would also save their time, and perhaps the students could utilize that time n speaking to the concerned ppl
hey manish, u cud also giv names n ref of students in the 1st yr, in the collegesstated above…
i think that will help the students get a broader perspective of the sub and the course.
thanks

12hi gayatri,
Thank you for the valuable inputs….
But this is th reason why I am writing this BLOG so that all BMM students can get in touch with me and i make sure that i provide them with an unbiased opinion….which the other students might not be able to provide….
I entertain all the doubts and make sure all BMM people land up making a good career…..
But i still appreciate your feeddback and value the same…

13Hello Jaanisar,
Well there are very less chances of you getting into Smt CHM college because, the final list is expected to close in the range of 60-64% this year…
As far as RIZVI is concerned, i think that the chances are seriously dim here as well because you needed to get atleast 58-60 % to clear RIZVI…But i would still recommend you to apply to RIZVI and keep your fingers crossed….
You could also take up a management quota seat in rizvi itself…
Keep Posting your queries and i shall KEEP HELPING you in the right Direction…..

17hi naksh,
Following the Mumbai University’s decision to introduce the Bachelor of Mass Media (BMM) course in Marathi, 11 colleges in Mumbai have applied for permission to start the course.
Ramnarain Ruia College, Dadar, Siddharth College, Fort, DG Ruparel College, Matunga, and Ambedkar College, Matunga are some of the colleges which want to start the course from the academic year 2009-2010.
Since the academic council took the decision to introduce the course in Marathi in February, it is heartening to see colleges applying for it. The syllabus has been modified to include information on Marathi media, history etc…….
The course which was earlier criticised for being irrelevant to the profession was modified after a delegation of prominent Marathi journalists petitioned the vice chancellor to include industry professionals and make the course available in Marathi.
A few colleges in the city have applied to start the course in Marathi in the coming academic year. Colleges are still considering the logistics with regards to teachers, seats etc….
Colleges now are in a hunt to search for bilingual faculty who can teach in Marathi and English.
However, with just a month left for degree college admissions, colleges will have to hurry up and find relevant faculty for the course. “There is already a dearth of relevant teachers in the mass media course. However, colleges will tap the Marathi media to get faculty

18well naksh, in 65.5 % , The colleges under SVKM banner are wiped out as an option because the cutoffs are very high in that colleges…You might just be able to sneak in MITHIBAI or UPG college for BMM only if you apply under the GUJARATI quota…..
Well Raheja could be an option but even their list is expected to close a bit on the higher end this year as the college has started to become popular as far as the BMM course is cconcerned….
But do apply in RAHEJA though and keep youyr fingers crossed…
Good LUCK….
Lemme know if you need more information

19Hey Manish,
First of all I just wanted to say, great job with this blog. It’s helped me so much more than all the other unreliable and out of date info on the net.
I just wanted to ask:
I’m a Sindhi and I’ve gotten 67% in this year’s commerce HSC exam. I’m applying to the following colleges for BMM under Sindhi quota:
*Jai Hind
*Nationals
*MMK
What are my chances of getting into Nationals and Jai Hind considering the low overall percentage this year?
Thanks in advance,
Dave.
Manish Dhanwani

20Thank You DAVE for the wonderful support that you have given to this site….
It is because of students like you that motivate us to help and we are able to give you quality and unbiased GUIDANCE ….
Under SINDHI quota, you will definitely get through MMK…There is little chance for you getting into NATIONALs, but again please do fill the form for the same as there is 30% chance….Also, in JAI HIND , there is no chance because the cutoffs for sindhi quota is estimated to be in the range of 70-72% this year inspite of a drop in RESULTS….i would also suggest you to fill RITUMBARA,LS RAHEJA and BHAVANS (just as BACK ups) incase you dont get into MMK…But dont worry you will definitely get into MMK under Sindhi Quota

23well well a tough question though…..
But a good one…
I should say that only KC offers a placeement assistance after you are done with your course…Many other colleges are coming up with the criteria of PLACING students soon, but news is awaited as of now….There has been no official announcements yet on the same though…
Well all the cordinators have good contacts in the industry…So if you maintain good relations with them , who knows, you might be the LUCKY one…(LOL)..
Anyways, here are the ranks as per the Faculty and Fame criteria that you were looking for….
1. RD National
2. Ruia
3. Sk Somaiya
4. UPG
5. SIES Sion as also SIES Nerul
6. Raheja
7.Khalsa
These results are done strictly as per my research and do not bear resemblance to any other controversies…..

I am interested in pursing my MBA in marketing from USA . Which univresities should I apply to and what are the prospects so that I can go immediately after my gradution .
I would also like to know if I could go as a transfer student at that stage or should I apply for a masters degree and then do my MBA there.
I would also like to know which universities would offer me a masters there.

27well, it is nice to see that you are vvery clear about your goals….
I suggest work-ex for Journalism students and some advtg students depending on their queries, aima, ambitions, and goals….
NOrmally, there are exams like gmat that you have to give and also score good if you aim to do things from a Reputed college…….
Yes you will have to pursue a masters degree first as 16 years educaation is the norm..I wiuld suggest you do an M.COM in Marketing to make things lighter and brighter for you in the future…..and then Pursue MBA …There are many good colleges in INDIA as well that can give quality teachings in marketing..(give it a thought)
Also there is huge money involved in going to the USA..So better make careful decisions in times of Recession…
As far as DIPLOMA in event management is concerned, my serious advice is that it is just to add a couple of lines in your CV and nothing else..Even USA does not consider that to be of any use…So…take care and all the best and do leave more comments to know more…
It was a pleasure to help you….
Let me know if you need anything else though from my end….
Happy to help

28Every year business schools receive rankings from various organizations and publications. These rankings are determined by a variety of factors and can be very useful when choosing a business school or MBA Program. Here are my top picks:
1. Kellogg (northwestern)
2. Wharton
3.Harvard
4. Tuck (Dartmouth)
5. Ross (University of Michigan)

29Dear Manish,
I scored an 89.5% in ISC in 2008. I have applied for admission in BMM in St.Xavier’s. What are the chances to getting it in the 1st Merit List?
Also, do you have any idea about how much weightage a gold medal from an ASISC National Sports Meet would hold?
Also, is there going to be an interview for the selected candidates post the announcement of the merit list…?

Admissions is purely on MERIT basis…..

65well…well….
Normally the professional courses like BMM, the INHOUSE students dont get and advantage unlike B.COM…because there are few students who take admission into the colleges for B.COM and therefoore INHOUSE is considered a priority there and nowhere else….
People follow in herds after SYJC to pursue BMM and therefore the colleges normally dont have inhouse students’ preference there……
But still. i would suggest you go and have a word with the college cordinator as well as pass on her number to me….I will try grtting more insights into the same…..

71hi roshmila….
There are no good colleges that can offer BMM because your HSC per centage is a bit on the lower side….
Anyways , apply to BURHANI, BHAVANS, and LORD College (Malad east)

74Hi Mr. Manish,
I am from arts background and I have scored 84.83% in HSC. I belong to the general category, no reservations at all. My best 4 is 89 and best 5 is 87%.
The first list of Xavier’s has been released and the cut off stands at a whooping 88.14%.
Do you think I can get into the second list or the third?

June 17th, 2009 at 1:46 pm

76This is very tricky…it all depends on the authority and the number of people taking admisssions in it…
According to me…you should not worry, coz if there are 5 lists, it will definitely go down till 83%
Lemme know if i could help you more!!!!

85I have scored 66.5 in my HSC this year in commerce, I want to go for BMM. I have got my name in the first list of Burhani, should I go for it?
Manish Dhanwani
June 18th, 2009 at 8:58 am
86Hi MAriyam,
i would suggest you take a seat only if you are very keen on doing BMM….
What was the cut off for the first list at BURHANI????
And what are the other colleges that you have applied to??
I can give you a more sure shot opinion and advice on the same….if you can let me know the cutoffs for other BMM colleges that you have applied to?
Also, i would suggest that you block this seat as of now, if you really want to do BMM .Later if you get admission into any other better college than this, then you can always cancel the admission….
And reply back with the cutoffs for other colleges so that i can recommend you the colleges that you could wait for?

87Hi Manish,
I have scored 84.6% in Commerce.. and am thru in the first list of KC and Sophiya. I should get into the second list of JaiHind as well. Now I’m confused about which college to conform my admission in? I have applied at Xaviers as well. If I get into Xaviers also, kindly help me out by suggesting where should I confirm?
Sphiya, KC, jaiHind or Xaviers?(not in the list yet)

89hey ankita,
Great yaar…you have a choice of choosing amongst the BEST in town….
I would suggest you to Get into SOPHIYAs….It is really gaining amazing recognition in the industry for BMM!!
If you get into Xaviers , then you could consider a switch , but SOPHIYA’s is really the best as of now….
Could you just let me know the First List cutoffs of the various colleges, that you have applied to…..I need it for a comprehensive analysis on BMM…
Thanks,
Keep Posting!!

90Hi Manish,
Could you please specify the factors that favour Sophiya over KC. I’m frantically trying to call up everyone I know who could help me get thru this dilemma. Most of the ppl i called, are favouring KC, and others wouldn’t want to be in the position I’m in.( to chose between the two).
Thanks

91Hey Manish,
Great effort on your part! Thanks a ton! =)
Okay, I score 87.2% in HSC, Science stream, open category. I’ve applied at Xaviers’, KC, Jai Hind and SIES (Nerul).
SIES, I got through in the first list. Have paid up as a back up.
I read your response to someone else saying Jai Hind is likely to close around 77%. I take it that was for the open category?
What’s the scene with Xaviers and KC? Also, suppose I get both, which would be a better choice?
Hope to hear from you soon =)

100hi divya,
the cut offs have really been very high this time…..
What I would recommend is LS Raheja…..as of now…Not Bhavans at all coz the infrastructure and Crowd is not upto the mark…..
As well as what i would suggest is that block a seat in LS RAHEJA and leter switch if you get into UPG….and even if you get into Ruia and UPF both, i would suggest you to go for UPG because the college is really coming off age…Rest is upto you…Let me know the cutoffs for the first list in whatever colleges you know….

101HI Mariyam,
as far as the cutoffs that you have provided me with, i dont see any chance of you getting anywhere where you have applied….
Have you applied in LS raheja & Rizvi?
as the cutoffs have been a bit on the lower side ….in these colleges and you will easily get in it…as far as my analysis goes…..
If you want to seriously go for BMM, and have not applied to rizvi and LS raheja….then go for BURHANI…coz thats the only viable option that i can see for you…
Anyways BLOCK burhani as of now..and keep me updating on the cutoffs so that i can help you better

102As per the news , it is expected to go down till 77% for SINDHI quota….
i am assuming that you have paid for SIES NERUL…(thats a great option that you have taken )……Obviiously without saying, XAVIERS would be a better option to consider….
KC Science has closed at 90 %…will go down till 86% though…
Xaviers also has closed at 90% for SCIENCE…will go down till 86% as well

111Hi Mitali,
BMM in KHALSA is not a bad option to go for actually…But i would suggest you take up BMM only if you want to seriously pursue it…Or else stick to RUIA BA…But once again, the college is ok and not that great….But again, BMM is coming of age ….I wwould suggest a BMM in KHALSA, only if you are genuinely interested in doing BMM

117Okay, from what the newspapers say, KC second list closed at 87.17% for science, open. That’s exactly how much I scored, so I’m guessing mine is the last name on the list.
I have to pick between SIES Nerul and KC, since Xaviers and Jai Hind 2nd list nahi hai.
I live in Vashi so SIES means about 20 minutes-half an hour of travel.
Getting to KC will take around 1 hr 15 mins one way. Keeping travel time AND actual market value, faculty and exposure of the college in mind which would be a better choice?
My parents aren’t too keen on KC because they feel that area wont be safe to be returning from when there are late evening projects and stuff.
Another thing is that KC was acredited A grade by the NAAC, which SIES was not. As per a newspaper article in Dec, 3 yr grad from A (or higher) grade colleges in India will enable me for post grad in the USA, so I save a couple of years there, can can also do an MBA from one of the better instis abroad.
So yeah, what’s your take on the situation?
Most grateful for any sorta help, thanks
Manish Dhanwani
June 20th, 2009 at 5:10 am
118hi mitali,
there is always more scope in BMM rather than conventional BA……
And yes by doing BMM, you will not loose anything at all only if you want to pursue a creer in ADVERTISING or JOURNALISM…..
So go ahead and do BMM without second thoughts on the same….there is also a benefit attched to BMM….i.e After doing BMM, if you dont want to do further studies…you can always work in related fields whereas not the same in BA….

120Hi Shweta,
nice to see that you are thinking beyond Graduation at this moment…..
I would suggest SIES NERUL for you since there are a lot of PROJECCTS for which you literally need to slog for even NIGHTS ….See, these ratings keep on changing every time….and its not that you will not be able to do post grad in US!!
I am a bmm ite from a college that had just started BMM, when i had joined..and when for my post grad even i had plans for goin to the US, and the only criterion was a 16 year education …Rest all depended on the entrance exam GMAT….So dont worry and get going with SIES Nerul…
Do keep me updated about the 2nd lists at various colleges and about your PROGRESS as well…..
Keep Posting and get all you doubts cleared!!

June 20th, 2009 at 5:32 am
122With 56 % , you might be able to get in KELKAR or at the most khalsa only …..
And donation seats ,well you need to inquire that from colleges only as I dont want to share such information in OPEN….
Also, SIES (SION) might be able to give admisssion in SC category , but RUIA wont….
Keep me updated about the various cutoffs for second list in the colleges that you have tried , so that i can help you better….
